Local groups are community-based groups of volunteers who work as a team for the promotion of human rights. They write letters, circulate petitions, and table at public events. They are the representatives of Amnesty International in their communities.

Amnesty International's global Urgent Action Network (UAN) provides an effective and rapid means of preventing some of the most life-threatening human rights violations against individuals. Over the past 30 years, UAN members have helped to save thousands of lives by stopping torture, preventing executions and protecting human rights defenders.
